Staff!
Norah – One of our dear Sonrise “Nannies”. She is the mother of five children of her own who live in her village about an hour away from Sonrise. Her youngest child is five years old and is being taken care of by the older children. She sends all of her salary each month back to her children for food, medicine, etc. Norah loves the Sonrise babies and cares for them as if they were her own. She is such a blessing!
Loyce – Loyce is our precious Sonrise cook! She lives not too far from Sonrise, so she spends the night at home, serves at Sonrise during the day, and then goes home at night. She gets to Sonrise early in the morning to begin preparing food for the babies! She spends many hot hours over the coals and fire preparing food and purifying drinking water for the babies and the staff! Loyce also makes the BEST African tea you will ever drink! J We are so thankful to have Loyce as a member of our Sonrise family!
Sophia – Sophia is our cleaning, cooking, do-a-little-bit-of-everything lady! She does so much for Sonrise and the babies! She, like Loyce, does not sleep at Sonrise, but goes home at night. She washes the babies’ clothes, cleans all of the floors, and helps take care of the babies! Sophia also takes the babies that are sick or need shots to the medical clinic. She loves the babies and we are so thankful for her love and dedication!
Julia – Sonrise has a new addition to the family in the way of a staff member and baby. Our dear Nanny Rebecca has left Sonrise to hopefully continue to pursue her high school education. God has provided another woman to help in her place. Juliet is only 18 years old and has a baby named Stella. Baby Stella has suffered many illnesses but she is one year old and she has yet to walk. She is a bit delayed developmentally because of lack of medical care.
When Julia found out she was pregnant, Baby Stella’s father run away and left Julia. They have not heard from Baby Stella’s father since then. At one point Julia thought about aborting Baby Stella but then she decided to keep her baby. She has been struggling to support baby Stella and herself ever since. They have been living deep in the village where there is not much access to food and medicine. Julia really appreciates her job and seems very dedicated. She is so thankful to join the Sonrise Staff. Please, please pray for her. She seems really sad most of the time and baby Stella is so unhappy for right now. It seems that Julia was really the right person for the job. When hiring Staff for Sonrise, we usually choose the neediest lady to come and work with us. Please pray that God will work in Julia’s life and heal her from her past hurts. And pray that we will have wisdom with Baby Stella and her medical conditions, and that God will raise up a sponsor for her.
Richard – Richard and Damali grew up together at Good Shepherd’s Fold Children’s Home and have remained close friends since then. When Damali opened Sonrise, she knew she would need a lot of initial help. So, Richard graciously came to Sonrise to volunteer and help raise the babies. He is 22 years old and helps provides security, runs errands, helps with feedings, etc. In Uganda, bartering is very much the way of life, so Richard will go and buy the items that we need at Sonrise and helps us save so much money! He has been a godsend. He is currently waiting for funds or help to go to school to study plumbing. While he is waiting and praying, Richard is living at Sonrise and helping with the babies 24/7. He is a GREAT tooth brusher! J He does anything and everything we need! He cares so much about the babies and provides such wonderful male leadership.
Betty – Betty and Damali are first cousins and also grew up together at Good Shepherd’s Fold Children’s Home. She is 21 years old and currently trying to finish at the university that she attends. She is majoring in Business Administration and is currently praying for the funds to finish her education. Please join us in praying for these students’ tuition. Betty visits Sonrise as often as she can and loves to help teach! Teacher Betty assists with class time and helping the babies learn their ABC’s and their numbers! She absolutely loves the babies and comes to volunteer as often as she can! She is such a blessing to Sonrise Baby Home!
Bosco – Bosco is our wonderful security guard! He arrives in the evening and stay until morning. He stays awake all night roaming the grounds watching for anything suspicious or potentially dangerous. He is a very large and strong man and we are so thankful that God brought him to Sonrise! Such a blessing! Many prayers surround him each and every night. Please join us in praying for his safety, along with the babies and Sonrise in general.
